 Tobacco Website Barred from Selling to Massachusetts ResidentsA Suffolk Superior Court ruling prohibits the Dirt Cheap cigarette company from conducting online sales of tobacco products in Massachusetts, the Boston Herald reported Aug. 25. The ruling was made in a case brought by Attorney General Tom Reilly, whose investigators found that Dirt Cheap was selling cigarettes to minors. State law requires cigarette companies to verify a buyer's age, a step that Dirt Cheap failed to take. "Internet retailers must comply with the law when selling products to Massachusetts consumers -- especially tobacco products," Reilly said. "You can't sell them legally to children, and they can jeopardize their health at an early age." Under the terms of the judgment, Dirt Cheap must pay $125,000 to the state's Local Consumer Aid Fund.
