Flavored Cigar Papers Used to Make Marijuana 'Blunts'Royal Blunt is being marketed as flavored tobacco paper for people who like to roll their own cigars, but police in Lowell, Mass., are seeing the papers being used to make marijuana cigarettes, the Lowell Sun reported Sept. 8. "I don't know anyone who rolls their own cigars," said Sgt. James Trudel, a vice officer on the Lowell Police Department. The 3 x 5-inch sheet of tobacco paper, which comes in 13 flavors, including sour apple, chocolate, watermelon, black cherry and cognac, sells for only $1 in convenience and liquor stores throughout Massachusetts. A 'blunt' is a street name for a marijuana and tobacco cigar. The term was taken from Phillies Blunt, a cigar brand popularly used to mix pot and tobacco. Although marijuana is illegal, rolling papers are not. "It's a byproduct, like Zig-Zag rolling papers," Trudel said. "That's the parallel. And unfortunately, somebody's probably making a lot of money." According to Weed City, a smoking-product website, there are dozens of rolling papers and blunt wraps besides Royal Blunts. The flavored ones have health officials concerned because they appeal to youngsters. "The bottom line is, it's not good for the kids, not good for the city, not good for society," said Trudel.
