Rally for Recovery expected to draw hundreds of thousands on Sept. 25

As part of the National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month numerous events across the country are being held throughout September to bring attention to this extremely serious public health concern.

One of those events is Rally for Recovery! which will be held on September 25 and is expected to draw some 100,000 people from coast to coast. In addition to raising awareness, participants will be calling for better local, state and federal policies and funding to help the more than 20 million Americans who are in need of, or undergoing, treatment for addiction, as well as their families and communities.

As part of the rally, states will be organizing runs and walks to benefit the cause, and one Midwestern state is planning a concert as well as kickball tournament with live music.

Last week, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) unveiled the results of a new national survey, which found that the use of a range of illicit drugs - including marijuana, prescription medications and ecstasy - went up in 2009.

Individuals affected by addictions, and their loved ones, may benefit from researching rehab facilities that offer comprehensive and holistic approach via outpatient or extended care programs.
