New campaign launched to raise awareness of smoking dangers

The National Cancer Institute (NCI) recently announced that it will host a campaign to highlight the success stories of other smokers who have quit. "Women Who Quit" will be presented on the NCI Smokefree Women website. It will have feedback from real women who found the courage to stop smoking and make healthier lifestyle choices in an effort to inspire others.

In addition to providing motivation, the NCI hopes that these stories will provide tips to smokers on how to quit. Because every nicotine addict is different, treatment may vary depending on the individual. The stories on the Smokefree Women site will provide smokers with different options and help them choose a method that works for them.

More than 87 percent of lung cancer deaths are a direct result of cigarettes, according to Smoking Statistics. Substance abuse treatment centers can help smokers kick their nicotine addiction and get a new lease on life.
