Florida increases efforts to raise awareness of lung cancer

Many people who are addicted to cigarettes want to quit, but lack the support and motivation to make the change. Tobacco-Free Florida recently announced that it will re-launch its campaign in November in honor of lung cancer awareness month. More than 222,000 Americans are predicted to be diagnosed with the deadly disease this year. Tobacco-Free Florida hopes to be a part of the movement to raise awareness of lung cancer.

The Florida Department of Health says it is working to provide smokers with the resources they need quit. Nicotine patches and gum are being given to cigarette users to help them kick the habit and live healthier lives.

Nearly 87 percent of lung cancer deaths have been traced back to an exposure to cigarettes, according to Smoking Statistics, a resource site. Substance abuse treatment centers can help individuals address their addiction to nicotine.
