Documentary to debut, highlighting success of drug court participants

Many counties struggling with illicit substance abuse establish drug courts to reduce crime. Baldwin County in Alabama is one example of a region that instituted a drug rehab program to help individuals struggling with addiction.

Recently, officials announced that they will be hosting a free screening to celebrate the success of the drug court, according to Baldwin County Now. Free admission to Lost in Woonsocket will be provided to residents interested in learning more about the rehabilitation program through the documentary. Normand Cartier, who was featured in the movie, will be present to discuss the film with attendees.

The Baldwin County drug court was founded in 2007. A graduation ceremony is scheduled for the end of January, and individuals who view the documentary will have the opportunity to purchase tickets to the event. The cost per adult is $10. More than 240 offenders have participated in the drug rehab program in an effort to avoid jail time and turn their lives around.

More than 20 million Americans admitted to using illicit substances within a 30-day period in 2006, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Family Services. Drug courts provide addicts with a second chance at life by giving them the resources they need to get clean.
